I log into my criterion account with hopes of finally beating my boredom and finishing this film and yet...
I like the idea of liking Godard's films... And I've given them much of my attention (Breathless, Masculin Feminin, probably others that I'm forgetting) but this one is surprisingly harder to get through than any of his other ones that I've seen. Maybe my devastatingly short attention span doesn't help and maybe my expectations got the best of me but I have literally watched this film within the span of a month now and still have not finished it.
The Strokes? Aphex Twin? The Radio Dept? yes.
I'm a sucker for a good period piece and this one makes me feel all fuzzy and happy despite knowing the controversy around the actual Marie Antoinette. The film tugs at your empathy for her by making her extremely relatable and not involving much of the politics that happened at that time except for the climax of the French Revolution. It's purely a character study. I love it!
