Terrible script that was extremely difficult to follow, and a poor marriage of director and material. Some bright glimpses, but woof was this rough.

Doesn’t change my opinion of Gaspar Noé. His angst-ridden, adolescent perspective of reality is in full swing here, but there’s some weirdly dark and stupid poetry at work. The structure makes the film - it would be utterly unwatchable otherwise, and is only borderline such as is. But despite Noé’s self-indulgently over-the-top presentation, there’s a powerful, exceptional emotional experience here, and the rawness of it all makes it that much more potent in its more peaceful final minutes. Breathtaking, works almost in spite of itself. I ultimately appreciated the film. I’m not sure that I will ever watch it again.

Managed to provide some smooth action, lush colour, and appropriate humour while treading nearly perfectly through some genuine thematic material. Ends up losing its balance by the end, but it made for enjoyable viewing nonetheless. A moderate step forward for the superhero genre, and a massive step forward for DC.

Phenomenal art direction, and it builds well on the themes from Prometheus. Every scene with David and Walter was fascinating. However, it suffers from being an Alien film...the sequences with the xenomorphs were consistently the weakest parts. Ultimately I preferred Prometheus; its lack of clarity made its thematic weight richer.
