    The Hudsucker Proxy

    An absolute hidden gem. Orson Welles makes Playtime. Hilarious.

    It's a disservice to the craft to call it a cartoony, though it is-- The movement and rich world that these two create whether subtle or HUGE (like here) is just a feast for the eyes and for the sense of rhythm and time. I hope they get around to another as zany as this.

    “Show don’t tell” they always say, but there’s something beautiful about Bergman’s ability to sometimes to nothing but tell and let that showing emerge from that— still working with the space so well to reflect the arguments and discussions. The writing had such a crescendo to it as well— my breathe was stolen from me and I literally gasped when her abortion…

    I just love how horribly open Leigh is about his character's issues. He does not shy away from their ugly parts, where outward or very, very inward.

    There's just a certain kind of beauty in this cinematography too that is so plain yet so subsumed in framely perfection.
