I haven't written a Letterboxd review in a few years, but I need to say this movie was horrible. Full of visual production and otherwise empty—like trying to eat fog. It would be a better experience to watch it silently. Play random soundtrack music and make up your own story—that would be a great improvement. I give one star for the water stuff.

Visually beautiful and well acted. The Scorsese camerawork and storytelling style is fun to see. But the story itself is very dry and didn’t hold my interest. Best parts involve animals and shots of food.

Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, and Mystery Train are all within my top 50 favorite movies ever, but not any Jim Jarmusch movies made after that—until this one. Paterson is the Jarmusch world I want to live in. Also solidifies my opinion that Adam Driver is a good actor, and not just that quirky guy from Girls and Star Wars.

Would have been more satisfying as a blog post rather than a 100 minute movie. It was amusing but mostly annoying to hear speculation on symbolism within The Shining, but ultimately it just made me want to read books about Stanley Kubrick—so one star for that.
