...that never came. These aren't the same characters that we've grown to love, nor are they in the same world that we've come to slowly understand and appreciate. This film does a great job of characterizing Kaworu, only to rob Shinji of the defining moment ending their relationship. Mildly looking forward to Mad Max: Evangelion in Rebuild 4.0 just out of curiosity, but I'm honestly not sure that I know who these characters are anymore.
Despite a cool design idea, Ghidora was butchered and wasted here. The Mothra cameo was pointless and came too late. This film doesn't get to graft the moral messaging of prior Godzilla films onto it in the final act of the last film in this trilogy with no prior setup. Man of Tomorrow (MoS/BvS FanEdit) Review: *MoS death spoiler* happens offscreen, Batfleck benefits from the early intro, both MoS and BvS are better when more focused (without subplots) and when the INCREDIBLE narration from MoS marketing ("They will stumble, fall" speech) is inserted into the interlude between the two films.
