“Loyalty is tricky, it’s a moving target.”
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Love the climax to this, supposedly, early feminist film, where Barbara Stanwyck’s character is being used as a human shield by her own brother. Tough law man Mr. Bonnel (Barry Sullivan) couldn’t care less, as he proceeds to shoot her, kill her brother, and walk over her body on his way out of town.
Stanwyck lives and in a truly perplexing scene, chased after Bonnel on his way out of town, begging him to take her with him. Love arc…
Suzy. Do you know anything about witches?
I thought I loved this film already. Well I just saw it in a theater and I make no exaggeration when I say it was the best theater experience of my entire life. Of course the 4K restoration was beautiful, but my goodness the sound. My eardrums have never been so happy to have the life mercilessly pummeled out of them. Crowd was great. Oh, and the theater is in Salem, MA. Absolute perfection.
