So I saw all the reviews and how people were so mixed overall, and I see why. I was impressed by the opening, it was atmospheric and felt right. The animatronics look great, and the film is shot very well, but it’s just… dull.

The biggest issue is the pacing. This movie is near 2 hours, and it just drags. The material here could’ve made maybe an hour? But they just don’t do as much with it as I would’ve…

While I’m more familiar with the carpenter remake of this film, this 50s classic is not something to be missed.

Yes it has several 50s monster movie tropes, but the presentation is superb. A firm reminder that just because something appears cliche doesn’t make it of poor quality.

The isolated setting combined with the music, and especially the writing, allows this old flick to remain a chilling experience.

If you’re a fan of the carpenter film, or 50s monster flicks, do yourself a favor and check this out.
