    The Devils


    Three stars for the set designs and production values, and overall ambition of the project. I need to read up on the history and think this one through a bit more to decide what to make of it. Some of it felt ridiculous in a not good way, but there are numerous compelling moments. The grandiose pomposity of the acting also caused me to lose focus on the protagonists as actual people, reducing their sufferings to theatrical artifice. But I'm not willing to dismiss this quite yet.

A perfect film for such an occasion, not just because of its setting on that date, but because of it's "Christmas Carol"-esque message about doing better with the opportunities life gives us.     I'm happy to give this film my highest rating, simply on the power of the experience it provided for me and the group I saw it with earlier this evening. I was accompanied by two of my sons, a daughter-in-law, a niece and her husband, all young adults .
