Me from January-June 2018 "CAN THIS FUCKING MOVIE COME OUT ALREADY?"

Me 1 hour into it "Oh my god I am such a baby why do I torture myself like this"

Hereditary does what I appreciate most about good horror exceptionally well: pairs domestic and grounded neuroses with visceral and spooky dread and anxiety.

I really want to see it a second time ASAP because it's so densely layered and almost overstuffed with mythos (particularly at the end), that I'm almost skeptical whether it will hold up as well on repeat viewings.

100% "guilty" of being stylishly gritty and making a loathsome protagonist as sympathetic as possible.

Thankfully for me, I don't consider either to be a bad thing.

Greenwood score is a bit obnoxious and overbearing at times, but I loved this overall and especially that ending.

Will have to re-evaluate this later, but for me right now it's a very strong movie that's kinda weakened by having one of the characters essentially explain the thematic relevance in a monologue near the end.

It would be neat if my boy Sufjan takes home some oscar hardware for this though.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the funniest and most empathetic movie of the year has arrived.

Maybe you can't relate to growing up as an angsty girl in a catholic high school, but maybe you can relate to the struggle of acknowledging your own mediocrity.

Maybe you can't relate to moving back in with your parents after finishing college, but maybe you can relate to the feeling of inadequacy that comes with having your own children surpass your employability.

    Maybe you can't…
