Fully expected to dislike this but found myself enthralled in more ways than one. Sensationalizing the King’s story was one of the smartest decisions this movie made and Baz is the king of sensation himself. The cast is all wonderful but cannot get over how much Butler really sells the whole thing.

Overall just a fantastic and fun movie. Good lord I love it when this happens.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

The first half of this movie is insanely weak and some of the characters are absolutely grating (everyone who isn’t Indy) and some are outright wildly racist. BUT once they get to the titular temple, this movie is an absolute, pure thrill ride with a lot of impressive technique on display.

I literally sat there with my mouth hanging open for the second half, nowhere near the perfection of Raiders (what is really?) but a good time nonetheless.

    ★★★★½

At once one of the most shocking and funniest slasher films I’ve ever seen, X is the absolute smut your parents always worried about you watching at a friend’s house but through the lens of a filmmaker that knows what he’s doing.

The aesthetic of Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the vibes of Boogies Nights, X is for sure some of the most fun I’ve ever had watching a horror film.

Y’all ain’t ready for this one. Go in blind.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

As someone who laments the death of cinema because of the MCU, real must recognize real:

I fucking LOVED this. Aside from a sequence in the middle that feels like a contractual obligation this is Raimi going back to his box of old tricks. The finale is something ripped straight from an EVIL DEAD film and I was cackling like a madwoman during the whole thing.

It feels so good to have Sam Raimi back.
