It took me a long time to get around to it but having watched this now, I loved it. The one thing that puzzles me--all my life I've heard that the neorealist style in this was "documentary-like," and I don't see that at all--this is a very professional, well-acted, well-written film that seems like what it is, and it in no way seems like a documentary, except that it's in a very real setting. The 1941 remake by Victor Fleming of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde is not better than its predecessor but different.
    1. What I like: a lot of subtlety in the dialogue and acting. Tracy is very creepy in the piano scene. And Ingrid Bergman(who, I'll confess, is HOT in this film) seems to have done a performance here that inspired her daughter's in BLUE VELVET. (if marred by some diction problems and her accent constantly changing) And it's a great-looking production.…
