Great acting, a lot of really neat visuals and special effects, and a lot of really compelling concepts and ideas. And I mean a LOT of ideas. Maybe one too many ideas... I honestly don't think there was an actual story until like an hour in.

I know there's a GREAT movie in here somewhere. I think if writer/director Cronenberg was able to narrow down and focus on maybe one or two of the sci-fi concepts he explores in this film and craft a story around that, then this probably would've been a more memorable film experience than it was.

This film was so freaking hilarious omggg. I love how Sean Baker has such an amazing ability to work with first time actress and help to foster these extremely captivating performances.

There was a lot to love about this film. The acting is AMAZING and the entire film has absolutely GORGEOUS cinematography and is dripping with atmosphere. The carnival stuff at the beginning was really fun and had a ton of del Torro energy with the production design, and the third act of the film was insanely thrilling and wrapped up the film in a very satisfying and chilling way.

Unfortunately there are a few things that are holding me back…

I'm sorry, but even the crazy/insane horror elements and unique visual ideas and brilliant moments of directorial choices brought to this film by Sam Raimi ('Spider Man 2,' 'Evil dead II) were not enough to salvage what was an insanely messy story with very inconsistent character writing.
