It's not the worst movie I've seen this year.
But that's not saying much.
Despite good performances from Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, something about this biopic just didn't sit right. The story is somewhat fractured. Sometimes the only thing indicating the passage of time is with aging makeup on the actors.
The biggest issue with the story is really with characters development. This is most problematic with Hawke's Everett, who has a violent temper and is often depicted as abusive. This may or may not have been true about the real Everett Lewis,…
Johnny Depp spends a lot of this movie staring into the bottom of a rum bottle. I'm pretty sure he was looking for a better story.
