There's been a recent influx of horror movies that will become future staples in my seasonal watching. 2022 had DEADSTREAM and 2023 will have COBWEB and DARK HARVEST. Great practical SFX and lore set around Halloween time and you got a stew goin'.

The part of me that admires the performances and some of the visual continuity with Friedkin's original can't speak over the part of me that hates the convoluted story, the bizarrely rushed Exorcism, and the bastardization of the demonic possession in the first film. The new demon is just a rage monster that would rather kill their host than inhabit them? Seems antithetical to what a demon would want, given it literally jumped ship into another body to survive in the original.
Revisited the Black and White cut. It's an absolute shock this movie was produced by a major studio. Darabont directs the hell out of it; it really feels like a monster movie mixed with a super intense stage play. It's also a shame that this came out when King's name was fairly ineffective at the box office. Just a stellar damn time with an unforgettable ending.
