    Lady Bird

    ★★★★

As someone who didn't particularly relate to much of what Saoirse Ronan's "Ladybird” goes through I found the film to be fairly lighthearted, heartwarming and surprisingly funny. There's no need to overstate its significance like some have by claiming that it more or less revolutionizes the genre, but it's well above most efforts.

Ladybird doesn't quite succeed in avoiding all the clichés, but it rarely affects the movie negatively as director Greta Gerwig doesn't overdramatize the stereotypical scenes that can…

    Grimsby

    ★★★

Consistently over the top and disgusting. Occasionally hilarious.

A lot of filmmakers secretly wish they had the guts of Sacha Baron Cohen. Restecp. (Yes, very original, I know.)

    La La Land

    ★★★½

Had sky high expectations that I spent the weeks leading up to seeing it trying to lower. I should preface this by saying that I'm not a big fan of musicals in general. Downsizing

    ★★

An entertaining disaster. Starting off brilliantly, Downsizing ends up becoming a film we've seen many times before, betraying it's own premise while being tonally all over the place. Why give us more of something we already have when there was such a wealth of much more – some hyper-interesting – ideas to expand on? What a waste.

The shaky path the film takes does end up providing some solid laughs though, mostly thanks to the fabulous Christoph Waltz, so that's something I guess. It's somehow much more worth seeing than my rating would suggest.
