Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

A pitch perfect adventure film set upon the high seas which tells a stunning fictional tale based upon the unbelievably true escapades of real life captain Lord Cochrane.Β

Australian director Peter Weir proves himself to be a master filmmaker and Russell Crowe delivers one of his many legendary performances as Lucky Jack Aubrey. Throw in wonderful action set pieces, intense conflicts, deep tragedy and more than enough character depth to spare, this David vs Goliath story is one for the ages.

    Munich

A harrowing depiction of aggression and revenge set against the backdrop of a polarizing and decades long conflict.Β

It never ceases to amaze me how Spielberg can make the most trivial and basic of interactions extraordinary with precise blocking, genius camerawork and a remarkable number of complex long takes.Β

Munich is one of his unsung masterworks of directing, bolstered by a commanding lead performance from Eric Bana and a fantastic supporting cast.

Creed 3 was flat out an excellent boxing film with a great emphasis on character and story, culminating in some bombastic fights.Β

Michael B Jordan knocked his directing debut out of the park and Jonathan Majors put on an acting clinic which blew his previous role as Kang out of the water.

    John Wick: Chapter 4

An exciting and propulsive 4th chapter to the Wick franchise which contained even more mind-blowing stunts, insane car sequences, brutal gun work and a wonderful performance from Donnie Yen.

This stunt team pulled out all the stops for #4 and deserve all the praise in the world. However, I must admit that character & story were left a bit by the wayside in the first 2 hours, but that is forgivable because the film finished in satisfying and grand fashion.
