This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The irony is not lost when the black and yellow men still had to shoot each other because of the white man.

PS: Also it's refreshing to see a movie about Vietnam being shot with actual Vietnamese actors and actresses (hello, other VN-US war movies). Very good perspective other than "We shot them VC good! But we sad!" stuff we usually got as well.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Let me preface this review by saying that I watched The Farewell during my flight back to Europe, from my homeland, Vietnam. There, I just visited my maternal grandmother's grave, who passed away less than 3 months ago. I also hugged my paternal grandma, my last remaining grandparent, goodbye with the ever-increasing fear that the next time I come back, she wouldn't be there anymore.

This might be why this movie affected me a lot more than it should be…

Bias review of a Mark Strong stan:
-The shots on Mark alone are enough to win this movie a Best Cinematography Oscar.
-His calves deserve their own credit. And his cane.
-Absolutely worth watching for his few minutes alone.

Now review like I am a normal person:
-The movie is absolutely gorgeous. Mendes and Deakins did it again! Watching this in IMAX made the whole experience even better. Sometimes, I actually felt slightly nauseous because of how tense I was. What everyone else said about it's like you being there? It's true. This will be a movie that I'll rewatch in the future.
