    Starred Up

STARRED UP fully embodies the mindset of its central character ― violent, difficult, and stubbornly unwilling to give into the clichés of its genre.

Almodovar remains a filmmaker who I totally understand *why* he is revered amongst other film critics but his movies just breeze past me as competent, easy and fine. A consistent 6/10 every time.

    The Phantom of Liberty

The most ambitious, dark, funny, and masterful of Buñuel's satires, THE PHANTOM OF LIBERTY should be looked at as the pinnacle of absurdist critique on class structure and social systems. Moving deftly between disconnected sequences, it ties together all the connections (verbal, physical, sexual, and violent) that humans have with each other and points out the capricious ways in which we react to them, either in approving or disapproving behavior. The film is an absolute rejection of objectivism if there ever was one.

    The Wolf of Wall Street

Non-stop vapid excess to the point of exhaustion. It is one of Scorsese's most deliberate condemnations of a lifestyle, but its giddiness and satisfaction in its own display may belie the ultimate point for a lot of people.
