Majestically shot landscapes and a wonderful score, but I didn't connect at all to the characters and the story. I can't deny that it is competently made, but I wasn't bored that much by a film in a long time. It doesn't really have a dramatic structure, every scene feels more or less the same for over 2.5 hours. Also, I found the white colonial perspective on Africa rather uncomfortable from today's perspective.
An intense, beautiful thriller with Joaquin Phoenix as a traumatized enforcer. Thematically similar to Taxi Driver, but nevertheless a truly unique experience. Strong acting, a superb score by Johnny Greenwood, great editing and stylish cinematography. However, it was kind of strange to watch a film with a runtime below 90 minutes (have overlong films spoiled me?). I was really surprised, when the film ended. Don't get this wrong, the ending was perfect for the film, but the film felt even a lot shorter than it actually was. I could've watched at least half an hour more of it!
