    Uncloched Gems 🍽

I often think about those rare films that just feel like they are the film that director was born to make. Dinner Rush is that film for Bob Giraldi. The cramped steel kitchens rinsed in harsh white light and lit with flames dazzlingly contrast against the inviting golden brown sepia-toned sultry of the dining room in a way only an expert restauranteur could capture.

In my search for the Lex The Wonderdog, the lost masterpiece by child prodigy Sydney Ling, I have discovered this. Shadows of Blood. The rarest of films. A film that basically, doesn't exist.

Starring Ling collaborator Paul Naschy and maniacal freak Barry Fleming as super sadist serial killers on a strangling rampage across the rain slicked streets of Amsterdam.

It's shot directly on to the VHS tape you'd be watching it on in the analog days. I'm not sure who…

Fantastic early Coen Brothers-esque thriller from the Jacobsen brothers on that intense small intimate scale you'd expect in a play.

The Jacobsens' performances build beautifully together. Shane has this puppy dog quality about him that is used so beautifully to create this sense of arrested development. By the end of the film he's created this complete and complicated character. Such an effective screen presence, would love to see more of him in this realm.

Kym Gyngell and Lynette Curran are two of the best character actors in Aus stage and screen history. They're exceptional here. Beautifully cast film.
