Cult movies, punk rock, rad times.
Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I've seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!" ...and I'll look down, and whisper throughout the movie.
I was sold this movie as another in the tradition of ripping off Gremlins, much like a Critters, a Ghoulies, or even a Munchies.
Spookies is so much more than that. It contains almost every 80's trope, and creature, you can thinks of. It's almost a perfect time capsule of all horror from the period.
Featuring zombies, ghouls, sorcerers, pint-sized goblins, exploding grim reapers, muck men, demon possession, and vengeful brides, Spookies is impossibly entertaining in a stew-like manner. The equivalent of horror bubble and squeak.
