Garry Masala’s review published on Letterboxd:
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this episode by any means. I had the mindset “Expect disappointment and you won’t be disappointed.”
Holy fucking Christ I was not expecting to be that disappointed.
The main thing I can point out as a positive of the episode is that they stuck with the death sound from the 70’s.
The plot was so bland and it was never given any time to develop into anything interesting.
How does an alien time traveller with supposedly infinite regenerations say that a flying pirate ship is impossible? The Sea-Devils explain that it’s because it scares the land crawlers… as if a walking talking alien fish with lightsabers aren’t scary enough.
I mean, humans are scared of debt and they didn’t become fucking bailiffs, did they?
HOW CAN THE DOCTOR SAY YAZ IS BETTER THAN ANYONE THEY’VE EVER MET? RIVER? WILFRED? ROSE?
I think I was only really excited for the next time trailer after I actually began watching it and even that was disappointing. I mean Ace coming back - Yay… It’ll be poorly written just like the rest of it. To hell with pointless fan service. Can’t wait for God to return… I mean RTD.
