I'm very conflicted (although, arguably, giving it 4 stars, clearly it's not the heaviest of conflicts) about this film, there is so much to like, and I did like so much. But at the same time I missed the beautifully shot, freeze frame and print, art from his previous feature "Beyond the black Rainbow". Even though there was plenty of opportunity. And that kind of hurts a bit. Is that shallow, hella, but for a film with a larger budget,…
Not an easy film by any stretch, but also not nearly as hard as the hype would make you believe. Sure it's heavy on the religious and philosophical metaphors, but at the same time it's also a story that goes from A to Z in a relatively straight line. And my personal feeling is that this is the reason people have some issues with it. because of the contrast between heavy metaphor and straight line story progress, people tend to over analyse the story, while under analysing the metaphors it presents.
