    The Cobbler

I actually like this movie, it's not great but better than most of latter Sandler. This is kind of a low rent Jewish Darkman but instead of being horribly disfigured, you get shoes, the two films are very similar and I would love to think that Director Tom McCarthy watched Sam Rami's Darkman and said I'd love to remake that with Adam Sandler. Sandler refused to participate in the make up sessions so they settled on shoes instead and we got ourselves a movie.

I just want the Michael Caine and Daniel Radcliff/Doctor Evil and Mini Me movie.

The performances are charming enough but the CGI magic grates.

It reminded me of a low rent Matchstick Men, the Ridley Scott/Nicholas Cage Con film. The film is sparse, Lynchian in some ways but without the menace, more quirk. The cinematography is gorgeous, the shots of the bubbles coming through the wall, like a pink wave, lush. It's a very obscure reality being presented, me being dumb, I didn't quite get it but I did enjoy it and although throughout I was expecting things to go bad but it was a sweet ending.

    Woof! Bad movie.

Absolutely love the design of everything, the voice work is excellent and loved the silhouetted sword fights but it's very Disney, I'd have liked a bit more bite to it but it is a kids film, maybe I'm just a grumpy old git, a solid film.

We are breaking bones and shooting people dead, I have alot of time for Statham, that dude has charm to spare and true physicality, dumb fun.

  • Jaws

Ace filmmaking at its best, Steve took a bad situation and a broken shark no less and made a classic film. It has a real sense of place, the Extra work in this flick is so interesting, certain shots of people in door ways, walking out of shops, showing a very real world. The score is undeniable and instrumental in the success of the film but I prefer the more adventure sounding score that mostly takes part on the boat, its really sweeping, love it. The three central performances are so different but equally fantastic. Just brilliant.

    The Prophecy

I liked it, it has a vagueness and quirk about it, which I enjoy. With lesser actors though it would not be good, the film is carried by the performances and great Devil action by Viggo. Towards the end you get ropey CGI and Hallmark Channel sentiment, which grates. Good but not great.

Average but enjoyable enough for a Sunday viewing.

It's a really interesting idea and it moves and the dialogue is quite snappy but once we start to move into the world of finance, I started to tune out.
