Directional debut and hardening back to bone chillers like Rosemary’s Baby and Exorcist. Firstly I’d like to set aside the expectations for scares- Hereditary did not shake me like ads or the hyperbole was making me believe. However, an excellebt movie emerges from that expectation, one that doesn’t quite easily leave the mind upon walking out of the cinema.
Toni Collette powers through as a mother at her wits end devouring harder and harder scenes as she descends in to madness. The supporting cast is all excellent. There are shocks and surprises all through and clever foreshadows abound.
Perhaps the shocks are what scared people, I didn’t find myself tensed up or frightened, but engaged thoroughly absolutely.
Worth another visit.
