Officially the first time I’ve seen toxic masculinity linked to showtunes.
My friends and I stood outside the theater for an hour, unpacking what we saw:
• The ambiguous setting of both time and place
• How so much of what we witness is unreliable, as we don’t know what’s in Joker’s imagination vs. reality
• The movie’s provocative engagement with our current discourse over mental health, white rage, toxic masculinity, mass violence, civil war, growing class divide, access…
