Happy Late Birthday Jake.
I'm not into these procedural, True crime films but David Fincher is the type of guy that can make ANYTHING interesting (okay maybe not Benjamin Button). Jake Gyllenhaal's character is basically the audience, increasingly becoming more engaged and obsessed as the plot goes on. The way the film peppers in small little details that will have the audience thinking is genius. The performances are great, with Robert Downey Jr. basically playing himself and Mark Ruffalo playing a captivating detective looking into the case. The attention to detail bringing the 60s and 70s is stunning, engrossing the viewer into those times. The camera work is sleek and while not overtly showy, still looks great. Up there with my favorite Fincher film with Gone Girl.
