    If Wes Anderson had a British children’s book character, he would make a film about like this. The only missteps in Paddington lie in the few times it dumbs itself down to be what it isn’t. Like its main character, it’s integrity is its strength and its missteps are lovable, forgivable mistakes. A laugh-out-loud, genuine film crafted with love. Do not underestimate Paddington.

    I adore Paddington and this is a worthy sequel. Its heartwarming first act and intriguing second act are careful and original, but its third act resorts to the typical “family film” antics of big, action-oriented filmmaking. Not a problem and in fact, King and company execute the chaos of fighting on trains as well as any other film, but it’s a tired trope that even this loving parody can’t make less trite. The good news is that the rest of the film lives up to the first one, which an unprecedented accomplishment. Fingers crossed for a third film...
