    (I love this.)

Woody Allen is not a director I admire more than just casually, but I will endorse a few of his films as being masterpieces... MIDNIGHT IN PARIS might have been my first Allen film and I still regard it as his best. ANNIE HALL, sure, it's great. And BLUE JASMINE, of course, superb. But the lows with Allen are quite low, or maybe just too middling for a director whose filmography these gems in them.

    Step Brothers

A stone-cold classic, as Adam Scott would say.

Ten years on, Step Brothers has achieved cult status. It’s a well of ludicrous scenarios and hilarious quotes, a slam dunk comedy which makes me long for McKay to do another one of these. I favor Talladega Nights ever so slightly over this. They’re in the same ballpark of humor, with legitimate plots and endless great characters. We need more comedies as imaginative and clever as this. An absolute riot.

I've read the writing on the wall and I'm here to recite it to you: Chazelle's had two hits in a row with the Academy and I don't know if this one's going to get the same love. WHIPLASH had the cold precision of THE SOCIAL NETWORK, LA LA LAND had a lively splash of Demy's UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, and FIRST MAN is a whole different animal yet again. And it feels a little thin, despite Chazelle's technical abilities.

    Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Tom Cruise yelling “SHIT” in the middle of that helicopter chase is somehow the realest thing I’ve ever seen in a blockbuster.
