The Last Black Man in San Francisco

The Last Black Man in San Francisco ★★★½

THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO is close to brilliant. The first half is overlong and slow. Except for the older white woman sharing sympathy with a young black man at the shifting character of their home and city, the first half is not very good. The second half, however, is brilliant. I loved the play scene and the touches of the San Francisco bay accompanied by a graceful and haunting soundtrack. You have to love it in order to get to hate it. Overall, this film is a little too abstract for me, but I recommend it for its simple beauty.
