Both have too similar plots, yes, but still, The Evil Dead and "Evil Dead II" couldn't be more different. While ED carries a dark, scary atmosphere and avoids you some sleep at night; Evil Dead II isn't the same case. What we have here is a hilarious, zany, over-the-top romp that left me with a big, goofy smile.
Co-Writer/Director Sam Raimi gives the film this frantic, breathless pace and gives Ash the worst night a human being can have, with each situation being worse than the last one. And being highly entertaining; Raimi tops himself scene by scene, reaching new heights creatively and laugh-wise.
But... Evil Dead II wouldn't be that good without that Bruce Campbell, right? Indeed, Bruce Campbell gives a fantastic performance and he looks incredibly engaged in it. Absolutely deserving that cult status, it is a joy to watch that man do his thing and after 26 years, still be quoting him and remembering such iconic performance.
Evil Dead II is incredibly fun and improves upon its great predecessor. A must see for everyone.
