Men resenting & judging women for their bodily autonomy then reducing them to something trivial (even when trying to help) before moving onto something else. Women left alone with the mess come the end of the night. Credits roll & then blackness.
Scared the shit out of me. Fucking brilliant 82 minute vampire drama about the seductive allure of self destruction in a world so easily capable of genocidal cruelty. We’re watching a naïve just-bitten philosophy student succumb to incoherent doomerism & desensitization while — as (blood) addiction takes hold — her course study makes her confront imagery out of WWII concentration camps, razed villages, etc. And soon enough victim becomes victimizer. This take on vampirism makes a lot of obvious allusions to heroin but it works extremely well & the gestures at queerness/AIDS paranoia especially got me. & Lili Taylor my god; just a full-on deterioration of both body & soul.
