very let down rewatching this but Slumber Party Alien Abduction is 100% still one of my favorite found footage films ever & makes me cry — about a family/bunch of kids forced out of their extremely realistic early-2010s suburban naïveté (“fuck you, cum-dick”) & straight into their own deaths, w/ no time left to apologize to each other for their jokes
Seems like this has its priorities set on satire for about 15 minutes before it unravels a potentially simple joke (socially-awkward podcaster fucks up interviews with indie bands) into something w/ way more emotionally truth. We start to see more confident moments from the musicians, the jokes fade. Most are real people literally playing themselves. They have heart. They know who they are; Lennon wishes she did. Aching violin starts quietly bleeding into the score as she mimics a video of Bobbi…
