The Hitch-Hiker

The Hitch-Hiker ★★★½

Watched for Hooptober 6/6/6.

My folks were tough. When I was born, they took one look at this puss of mine and told me to get lost.

Deft direction by Ida Lupino keeps the suspense high in this tale of two men on a "fishing trip" that goes awry when they pick up a hitchhiker on the lam. There's not much by way of backstory for our sociopath, but what more can you cram into the already lean runtime of 71 minutes?

(Recommendation: find a decent transfer of this film. Amazon ain't it, chief.)
