    Mr. Long

    - Long

One of the most brilliant Asian movies I have seen in a very long time. Being a tale of love and loss, a tale of feelings and food, a tale of family and friends, a tale of death and dignity, Mr. Long represents almost every single aspect I love about the Asian cinema. There is a huge lack of dialogue in this movie, but Mr. Long does not need any words to carry its heavy weight. The…

  • Chernobyl

'There was nothing sane about Chernobyl. What happened there, what happened after, even the good we did, all of it... Madness.'

Writing, acting, directing, shooting, scoring - Chernobyl oozes perfection with every single frame and every single second. This series may be the best thing that has ever aired on your television screen.

  • Capernaum

'I want to sue my parents. For bringing me into the world.'
    - Zain

The first time I heard this sentence was in January 2019. I sat in one of my local movie theaters and was about to see Shoplifters. I had heard some things about Shoplifters, and I was therefore prepared for seeing something that may punch me in the gut. What I was not prepared for was a movie trailer that would make me cry. The theater decided…

  • Snatch

'You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.'
    - Bullet Tooth Tony

One of the most quotable movies to ever have hit the screen. Wouldn't understand a single fuckin' thing without subtitles, but I couldn't care less. Screenplay on point. Soundtrack on point. Acting on point. Brad Pitt giving a performance for the ages.

Snatch may be one of the most underrated, yet most perfect, movies ever made.

  • The Darjeeling Limited

    The Darjeeling Limited

'Let's go have a drink and smoke a cigarette.'

Second time I've seen this, first time that it really clicked. May well be the most hard-hitting movie in Anderson's filmography, emotion wise. Wilson, Brody and Schwartzman are simply exceptional, and there is something about their story, about their relationship, which feels so incredibly real and which hits you so hard. The Darjeeling Limited is a wonderful piece of art.

    Color Out of Space

The movie‘s shit, but Nic Cage yellin' "You‘re a cocksucker" at his own car like some lunatic made up for a lot.

  • Little Women

    Little Women

'Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition, and they’ve got talent, as well as just beauty. I’m so sick of people saying that love is all a woman is fit for.'
    - Jo March

Some films, they will make you cry.

But at the same time, they will cause a deep-seated feeling of happiness.

Little Women is one of those films.

  • The Silence of the Lambs

    The Silence of the Lambs

'I'm having an old friend for dinner.'
    - Dr. Hannibal Lecter

The Silence of the Lambs might well be the most perfect movie that has ever been made. There is not one single thing in this movie that needs to be changed. Nor is it one second too long, neither is it one second too short. It may also very well feature both the most perfect male performance and the most perfect female performance in any movie ever. Howard Shore's…

  • Hell or High Water

    Hell or High Water

'Three tours in Iraq but no bailout for people like us.'

In the history of cinema, the American Frontier has many times been treated as the frontier that it actually was. As a frontier between civilization and wilderness. A frontier between the settlers and the native Americans. Hell or High Water tells a whole new story of the American Frontier. It tells of a frontier between the rich and the poor. A frontier between the establishment and those who were…

  • Ford v Ferrari

    Ford v Ferrari

    What a picture.

There is something about this movie which is so special. Having watched it, I felt like being thrown back into the glory days of cinema. It is a movie which could as well have been made in the 1960s. It is also one of those movies made for the warmer days. It is nothing but a summer pleasure. It is the cinematic equivalent to a cold beer after a long and hot summer day. Two stellar performances. A smashing soundtrack. Tightly edited, staggering pictures. A gripping story.

Ford v Ferrari is a motion picture made for the movies and nothing else.

  • Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Rick Dalton: 'Hey! You're a good friend, Cliff.'
    Cliff Booth: 'I try.'

There have been dynamic duos in Quentin Tarantino's movies before. One may of course think of Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega, the coolest gangster duo the world has ever seen. You may also think of Dr. Schulz and Django, an odd couple still having such a wonderful chemistry making you enjoy every second with them being on the screen in Django Unchained. Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth, however,…

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

    Random thoughts:

    - Never have 161 minutes been that short. They rather felt like 120.

    - Watching the movie, I felt like being thrown back straight into the 60s. This is by far the most self-consistent Tarantino, and this says a lot. The atmosphere is so tight, and the pictures are breathtaking. Every frame in this movie could be a wallpaper.

    - OUATIH is the first Tarantino which hardly feels like a Tarantino, and I can say this in the…
