The hype, melancholy and emotional turmoil this movie has associated with it is 100% real. Halfway into it, I felt like I was going to have an existential crisis and I realized nothing had really even happened yet. The way it was shot was so tender and intimate, made me feel like I was intruding on someoneβs personal life. I know it was intentional, but few films do it this well. That score was magnificent too. So subtle and beautiful.β¦

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai 1999
This was one of the coolest fucking movies Iβve seen in a minuteβgranted Iβve been on a bit of a bad streak lately but still. Bad streak aside, this would definitely become an instant favorite regardless of when I watched it. It brought the John Wick series and John Woo movies but perhaps not as gratuitous with the violence. But what Ghost Dog lacks in heavy bloodshed, it makes up for in creativity, style and substance. RZAβs soundtrack is the cherry on top of this urban tale of a stoic, disciplined hitman. Just beautiful!

Beverly Hills Cop II 1987
Did I watch the same movie as everyone else? Iβm pretty sure some people said this was better than the first but I canβt really understand how. It wasnβt terrible, Eddie Murphy was still a force of nature with his comedic genius so every second he was on screen was entertaining as hell. Other than that, the movie kinda fell flat. Would have loved more Taggart and less Billy but I guess thatβs just personal preference. Itβs okay overall.

I Know What You Did Last Summer 1997
Preemptively kicking off spooky season with this one. Totally missed my radar when it came out so seeing it now I can finally understand those Scary Movie references. Itβs not great, but itβs got a certain charm to it and feels like a time capsule of that era for sure. Kinda sad that no one ever dresses up as Long John Silver or whatever the fuck the villain in this is called for Halloween.

Erin Brockovich 2000
As someone who lives in California I can confirm that PG&E fucking sucks. Really enjoyed this and I canβt believe Iβve never seen it before. I kept thinking of Better Call Saul and I could totally see that being inspired by this. The most unintentionally funny thing about this movie though was Aaron Eckhartβs ridiculous look. The first time he came on screen it looked like he just walked out of the Spirit Halloween store with the first βbikerβ outfit he could find. Regardless of his costume design, I really liked his character and thought his chemistry with Julia Roberts was great.
