    Week 9: Pre-50's Noir Week

Noir is not a genre that I explore frequently but The Third Man certainly has a lot to offer. At its core a mystery it also has some romance, plot twists, intrigue, a charming ethereal score, and a thrilling climax.

Perhaps my favorite aspect of the film however is its function as a time capsule. Due to when and where it was filmed The Third Man captures post-war Vienna at an impeccable level. It digs into post-wart politics in the city and also features many beautifully shot outdoor scenes showing war damage and reconstruction efforts.

Even the sensible, responsible one was a complete twat. *Pulls into backpacker friendly restaunt looking for her friend. Scans the bike rack for friend's bike. Leans her own bike against a tree.* Girl don't make me smack you.

    Week 3: Non-Kurosawa Samurai Week

Rival Yakuza gangs posturing against one another each with an ace (or pair of dice in this case) up their sleeve. The aces for each gang are highly skilled albeit flawed samurai. One is blind the other suffering from tuberculosis. Both men have the highest level of respect for one another and have no wishes to go to war.

The tale may be somewhat cliched but it is done very well.…
