Although the third act strains the desktop conceit—and the denouement, any suspension of disbelief—what comes before is a rather effective rendering of a contemporary parent’s worst nightmare and a marginal improvement over the subgenre’s reigning franchise (Unfriended).

(I had to take half a grade off for the noticeably odd, on-the-nose choice of animal for the daughter’s high school mascot revealed early on.)
