• Chicken Kokkachi

    Chicken Kokkachi

The funniest Malayalam movie I have watched in ages. Relies a lot on physical comedy similar to Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. In fact the first time I watched it was without sound and I burst out laughing

  • Njangal Santhushtaranu

    Njangal Santhushtaranu

A product of its times and a Jayaram staple (often filled with misogyny). Today this movie would make you angry and sympathise with the woman

  • Crazy Rich Asians

    Crazy Rich Asians

Bang average movie really. But I guess every race needs their bland rom-coms. It's the side characters who stole this movie for me

  • Searching

Worth a second watch as well. You miss and see a lot things. The so called gimmick of the movie solely taking place through phones and computers is actually extremely well done and executed. But it is the story that is at the heart of this film

  • Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

    Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

Implausible plot. Just to shut off your brain

  • Mindhorn

Cringe comedy in the Office mould. It has the one idea but fails to capitaise on it.

  • Le Chef

    Le Chef

It's a charming movie about an odd couple in cooking. A very relaxing movie - Predictable comedy but you really love the characters

  • Blade Runner 2049

    Blade Runner 2049

It's a pretentious movie both intellectually and visually. Smart ideas have been presented before - Minority Report, Total Recall, Groundhog Day but these movies and especially the first two Philip K Dick movies were fun to watch and didn't take itself seriously. But the ideas behind it were interesting and smart.

This movie takes itself too seriously. And the exact scene is when Jared Leto killed a replicant spouting weighty dialogue with "very serious and important ideas". That's the scene were the movie lost it for me.

  • Snatch

Fantastic. Loved Brad Pitt's acting - I thought he would be the weak link there but he was a natural as an Irish traveller. Matthew Vaughan would direct a similar film Layer Cake in this style having produced this one. Guy Ritchie's ear for dialogue is fantastic

  • Freddy Got Fingered

    Freddy Got Fingered

Okay it is funny. There were scenes that were hilarious. But is it a Dadaist experiment? I'm not sure. At no point did the characters act logically. At no point did the plot progress linearly. The scat humour and obsession with animal's sex was a bit too much

  • Flight

Ultimately a film about alcoholism. Well acted movie. But the climax isn't convincing

  • L.A. Confidential

    L.A. Confidential

Still holds up in terms of plot. Not sure if James Ellroy's language in the book actually comes through
