How did I give this 4 stars originally? I think I wanted so badly it to be a good movie, I only saw the positives. The more times I watch it, the more I dislike it, especially when watched as a trilogy. Rey is an underwhelming protagonist. I hate that the emperor just happens to still be alive. Finn is nearly completely wiped from the storyline. On a positive note, it’s beautiful visually and Adam Driver is great as always. The negatives far outweigh the positives here though. As a trilogy, it’s incoherent, poorly written, and disappointing.

It was alright. Enjoyed the nostalgia but felt the first half was too slow. They spent way too much time on Neo figuring out he was in the matrix still. Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t a great choice either. He just didn’t quite fit for me.

I’m going to be a major outlier here because in terms of normal movie criteria (performances, cinematography, writing, etc.) this was just okay. The CGI was hit and miss and the acting was pretty meh all around. This gets 4 stars from me solely because I’m a history buff and loved every second of it. The filmmakers did a great job of making sure the plot was historically accurate and it was really interesting to learn more about the intelligence department’s role in setting the trap. If this were a 3 hour movie, I would have loved it even more.

The GOAT Shia Lebeouf comes out of retirement to give one of, if not the, best performances of his career. The entire run time is full of feel-good moments. I also liked how it highlights the issue with how society treats people with downsyndrome and other intellectual disabilities. I feel like that topic gets lost in the shuffle with all of the other problems in the news lately.
