    ★★

Like the stilted speechifying contained within the film, Peterloo is long, difficult to follow, and uses redundant images to hammer home its message. This makes for a film that's only accessible to the film-viewing elite, which is ironic considering the film's message about the elite class.

If I didn't know who the director or any of the actors were, I would have 100% believed that it was an Asylum Films Mockbuster of Independence Day. The hammy acting, bad CGI, and general cynicism all fit, and that's kind of the only way I can make any sense of this crazy movie.

This movie would be a really good episode of CSI or another crime procedural, but it didn't do anything to justify its feature-length runtime or its A-list cast (the main characters are nothing but genre cliches). This movie spares no time or thought for any of its victims, nor does it examine the role…

    ★★★★

A technical masterpiece with top-notch performances. Paul Thomas Anderson's historical drama doesn't do much to help us understand a historical moment or movement, and mainly just reminds us that men can be assholes.
