Stalker

Stalker ★★★★½

For the first time in a long time, I have been left completely and utterly perplexed as to what I just watched. This isn’t like other films however, for I feel that was the sole intention of this films very existence. Should we question what we just saw? Should we do deep diving research to get to the bottom of it all? Or should we simply ponder what we witnessed for as long as possible before moving on. As I write this my mind literally feels fried from the possibilities of what I just watched truly meant, but I found it important to write my thoughts as they come to me immediately after this viewing. I had no idea what I was sitting down to watch. I knew it was a sci-fi hailed as a masterpiece, but to label this just as a sci-fi film seems criminal. I kept focusing on the religious allegories that were ever so present throughout, and that final moment truly confirmed my interpretation for me. I’m debating upping my rating from a 4 to a 4.5 as i’m writing this, because while I’m thinking that this would possibly be a chore to watch again, I feel that i will eagerly anticipate the day I decide i’m in the mood to watch it again through the lens I’ve chosen. I want to let this simmer a bit longer as I continue to remain silent after I put this case back on the shelf, but I will write this final thought before I finish up for now.

I can understand completely why this may be considered the greatest film ever made, for it seems like it is one of a handful of films that truly shows its viewer just how crucial art can be when questioning the very meaning of life itself
