Jesus fucking Christ are you fucking KIDDING ME. Genuinely one of the most uncomfortable and upsetting movies I’ve ever seen, probably in the top 3. I had to take a break after 20 minutes of it and I spent an hour just staring at the wall after it ended. Julia Ducournau you are paying for my therapy bills 😭😭😭😭

Noroi: The Curse 2005
Found footage at its best, using a variety of mediums at its disposal to craft a slow, winding mystery of rituals, curses, and demons to disturb its audience at a primal core level. The sheer brilliance of this movie comes in its subtle atmosphere and quick, horrifying imagery unlike I’ve ever seen before. If you can get invested in this, it’ll creep you out beyond belief. It uses so little to do so much and is both captivating and terrifying in a way I haven’t experienced before. Even watching it again it felt like I was watching it for the first time.

Good things about this movie: Peele continues to show us his talent in his directing, creativity, and production. This movie looks and sounds amazing and has one of the coolest “alien ship” designs probably ever. The buildup and tension in the first 2/3rds are amazingly handled, with an especially horrific “feeding” scene that will stick with you. Some great jump scares.
