The Mischief Makers

The Mischief Makers ★★★½

Elegantly filmed, early Truffaut short about a gang of young rascals infatuated with the beautiful, carefree, Bernadette. They make merry mischief trailing her and her lover’s every move, providing a raucous, juvenile commentary on the couple’s romance. It’s shot through with a summery, childish inconsequence, but there’s a sense of wistful nostalgia and pending tragedy that lightly pre-echos the pathos of The 400 Blows
