Zola ★★★★½

“Who you gonna be tonight, Zola?”

coming from the theatrical hands of jeremy o. harris paired with the brilliant direction of janicza bravo, this movie took the source material and elevated it in a way i didn't think possible. this may be a weird read but the word "shakespearean" is coming to mind. like this is not just a story, but a tale, an allegory for our age that actually feels relevant without trying. everybody involved from the top billed cast down to ts madison (who gave us a prayer i will now be saying every morning) fucking bodied, especially taylour paige. riley keough was undeniable. colman domingo was terrifying. nicholas braun was hilarious and kinda heartbreaking?

in short: i laughed, i cried, and deleted my twitter app. well done...
