AJ’s review published on Letterboxd:
Why does everyone talk to Rusty James like they’re his mother?
Amazing cast, amazing production, amazing cinematography, but I didn’t think the story had much to it. I’m going to attribute that to it’s source material being a young adult novel + SE Hinton being a co-writer on the film. It feels like they tried to mature the characters, but not the story. I love FFC’s emotion-filled trio from the early 80s (The Cotton Club, One from the Heart, Rumble Fish), and this is definitely the most emotionally-charged of the three. Ultimately, a hot-blooded gorgeous affair that flares out without going anywhere.
