• Godzilla vs. Kong

    Godzilla vs. Kong

Confident in its dumbness, this is the sort of movie that should be seen intoxicated, in IMAX with subwoofers that violate the SALT treaties.
The famous actors do a great job of practicing open mouthed stares at the monsters fighting. I’m happy they made a monsters fighting movie that had monsters fighting for much of it.

  • Sahara

Lighthearted adventure that doesn’t make much sense but doesn’t offend the sensibilities either.

  • Zack Snyder's Justice League

    Zack Snyder's Justice League

This got more and more preposterous every frame for four hours. Why was it reframed in 4:3? If you run every slo-mo shot at normal speed is this a 90 minute movie? Why are there 7 chapters of inter-titles?
This is just another bad DC movie, but it’s actually much better than the 2017 trash fire.

Zack Synder could have been an interesting, if niche, cinematographer. But he remains a poor director.

  • Kajillionaire

I thoroughly enjoyed Evan Rachel Wood's performance. She really sells this character, the voice, the mannerisms, everything and she's fun to watch.
I'm intrigued by the director's other work. I hope its more weird stuff like this.

  • Coming 2 America

    Coming 2 America

Wesley Snipes is actually pretty entertaining.

  • Carmilla

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Not especially well directed or edited, but in the end I appreciated the ‘twist’ of removing the supernatural.

  • Enola Holmes

    Enola Holmes

A bit blunt, but an okay children’s film. Happy to see the inclusion of the suffragette street fighters. Far too much fourth wall breaking cuteness. Cavill, disappointingly, ads nothing to this Sherlock rendition.

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

Why ever did I try to watch a kaufmen with this title? Didn't make it halfway.

  • The Great Gatsby

    The Great Gatsby

I've always found Lurhman's saturated surrealism pleasing. But the naive literalism reminds me of how dissatisfying Snyder's Watchmen was.

  • The New Mutants

    The New Mutants

The most painfully boring horny lesbian werewolf movie I've ever seen.
Gosh they spent a lot on this and the cast was fine. But who okay'ed this script?

  • Wonder Woman 1984

    Wonder Woman 1984

Truly embarrassingly bad script. Poor direction. Questionable editing, but what was there to work with? Gal Godot is as wooden as it gets. Pine & Wiig weren't bad with their cheesy parts. Pascal can be fun, but wasted on this scenery chewing role.
The costumes were nice and the photography was fine.

Why was this a period piece? Did that serve any purpose?

  • Tenet

Typical Nolan. High production values. Adequate to good direction. Lousy action. Low effort pseudointelliectual script that doesn’t cover up his pathological need for an uninteresting gimmick.

And Nolan still can’t figure out that dialog mixing is supposed to be clear enough to hear.
