A real wild ride. The animation is incredible, mixing various art styles together to create this sort of hybrid 2D-CG look. The humor is on point, but what really helps this movie, is how genuine the Mitchells feel as a family. There is tension between Katie and father Rick, but we also see why the latter is the way he is, and Katie grows from the experience, learning to appreciate her dad again. Dinosaur-obsessed brother Aaron and teacher mom Linda also get their times to shine, both in action, and in quieter moments as they try to help the strained father-daughter relationship. The family dog, Monchi, provides plenty of laughs, and two defective robots add to the journey too.
