Anthony Peronto’s review published on Letterboxd:
Every film is a documentary of its own making and Nanook, however staged, truthful, respectful, or insensitive it is, when viewed as a time capsule it’s pretty fascinating. It fails as a narrative feature, pandering to its audience with exoticism and bombast. But getting to see a way of life, however fictionalized, is a treat. Like the creation of an igloo, the butchering of a seal, or a walrus hunt, these scenes show us a close enough approximation of life near the Arctic Circle a hundred years ago.
