Anthony Peronto’s review published on Letterboxd:
The weirdest Toy Story film to date does have some iffy messages about identity and making someone to conform. But it all comes together that, by the end, it didn’t matter too much because there are some emotional beats here that rival any in the series. And Jesus Christ y’all, the comedy in this one is *chefs kiss* Pixar’s best. There’s a violent toy vs human gag that had my daughter and I cry-laughing. After growing up alongside this franchise, which is predicated on sneaking around and being unseen, witnessing such sudden and aggressive provocation (especially by Key & Peele) just hit me harder than any comedy in the last 5 years. Toy Story may not have ended in 2010 and Woody’s journey might be over (and just beginning), but it did some course-correcting with one of its original characters and its a helluva fun ride getting there.
Also, I hope Bonnie’s Totoro stuffed animal is doing alright because I miss him.
