As long as capitalism is alive, this film will be relevant. The extent to which our consumerism is part of our identity evades us, but when you watch this film and cringe at the living arrangements on Paper Street, this is when you should stop and check your consumerism scores. They are through the roof.

Some say that this film isn't for the modern times, yet I can't find any other film that is any more untimely that this one.…

I just finished viewing this film, and I don't know which way is up.
As a former Soviet, I am familiar with the culture that, even 30 years after the fall of the USSR, still has the same outrageous amount of corruption, routine daily horror, lack of basic conveniences, and the utter lack of empathy or compassion towards any stranger even from those who are paid to be in service to the citizens.
